Chemoexfoliation

Chemical Peels

How Does It Work?
Chemoexfoliation or chemical peel, is the means of increasing cell turnover in order to improve the integrity, health, and appearance of the skin through the regeneration of new epidermis.
Chemoexfoliation has several advantages such as; efficacy, efficiency, versatility, and the ability to integrate with other active ingredients.

They work by delivering a controlled injury within different layers within the skin and are accomplished by two different phases.

  • The first phase is the removal of existing cellular and fibrous structures. During this phase, the acid will create a controlled wound within the skin.
  • The second phase is the replacement of new epidermal cells and fibrous structures in the dermis.

Peels can cause changes in the skin by the following mechanisms:

  • Stimulating epidermal growth through the removal of the stratum corneum.
  • Destruction of specific layers allows them to become more normalized which will help with the overall cosmetic appearance and integrity of the skin.
  • Inflammatory reactions can result in a production of new collagen and ground substances in the dermis.

What Results Can I Expect?
Not every peel will cause flaking, peeling, or redness post-procedure. The degree of flaking and redness is dependent upon the acid type and strength. The day after procedure skin tightness may be felt. During the next 7-14 days, flaking and/or peeling could occur. If flaking or peeling is not experienced that doesn’t mean that optimal results will not be achieved.
All peels will create sensitivity to heat and sun for several days post peel and it is critical to the success of the peel that you comply with post procedure care requirements.

The chemoexfoliation procedure will take approximately 20 minutes, however, the time can vary due to the type of peel and the number of layers applied. During the procedure, it is possible to experience a mild or moderate tingling, itching, and heat sensation. These are completely normal and are only temporary. Upon neutralization, these signs should stop and if post care procedure are followed properly, the benefits of the peel will be experienced.
Our peels can help to visibly improve the look and texture of your skin
*Results are dependent upon what type of peel is used.

Part of the alpha-keto acids, which are organic compounds that contain a carboxylic acid group and a ketone group. The acid is naturally present in nature in; honey, apples, fermented fruit, and vinegar. It works in the skin by decreasing the cohesion of epidermal corneocytes, preventing thickening of the horny layer and stimulates collagen and elastin.
