Body Sculpting Q & A

What is noninvasive body sculpting?

Body sculpting, or body contouring, is a type of cosmetic procedure that eliminates areas of body fat that refuse to go away in spite of diet and exercise. Advances in technology have produced cutting-edge medical devices that remove fat noninvasively, or without an incision.

Noninvasive body sculpting has proven to be quite effective for localized pockets of fat, but it’s not a weight loss procedure. As a result, the best candidates are people who are near their healthy body weight.

How does the Cutera truSculpt 3D eliminate fat?

The truSculpt 3D uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat fat cells below your skin, warming them to the precise temperature at which they begin to liquefy. As the fat cells break down, the waste is naturally absorbed and eliminated by your body.

What body areas can be treated?

Most parts of your body can be treated with the truSculpt 3D because it has applicators in two different sizes. The smaller handpiece fits in tight areas like your neck or under your chin, while a larger one works well for areas like the abdomen and back.

What should you expect during the procedure?

Your treatment is performed using a flat applicator that’s placed against your skin, then moved around over a small, targeted treatment area as it emits RF energy. The amount of time a treatment takes can vary, but a tummy and both love handles can be treated in a one-hour session.

Since the applicator maintains a comfortable skin temperature, most people tolerate the procedure. In fact, many compare the feeling to a hot stone massage. If you have sensitive skin, however, you may want a topical numbing or cooling cream. You may have some slight swelling or redness at the treatment sites, but you don’t need to take downtime afterwards.

When will you see results?

Your body needs time to flush out all of the fat cells affected by your radiofrequency treatment, so you’ll see results in six to eight weeks. You’ll also continue to see gradual improvement over three months. Ultimately, you may lose up to 24% of the fat thickness that was treated during one session.
